Description
Species Description - Stems usually 15-45 cm tall, appressed-pubescent, at base with cataphylls 5-11 mm; stipules 8-15 X 2.5-7 mm; petioles 4.5-10 cm; leaflets 2.9-4.2 x 0.5-1.4 cm; peduncle 2.4-4.8 cm; rachis 0.6-4.2 cm, with 4-12 nodes, internodes to 13 mm; bracts round or oblanceolate, 6-11 X 2-8 mm; pedicels 2-3 mm; flowers 19- 26 mm; beak of fruit shorter than, equal to, or slightly longer than calyx teeth.
Distribution and Ecology - Limestone hills, ridges and outcrops, on the Edwards Plateau of Texas.

Overall, var. appressum is larger than var. latestipulatum. However, there is considerable overlap in the size of parts. The difference in pubescence is the only character that is consistently discrete. Were the varieties not allopatric, and were intermediate collections known, I would not hesitate to combine the two.
