    Species Description - Similar to T. rudis except: fronds generally larger; segments more or less perpendicular to costae, not falcate, the margin only slightly or not at all revolute; costae below with longer hairs (to ca. 1.5 mm long), spreading rather than antrorse; costal scales longer, castaneous, not so clathrate; receptacle with a few stiff acicular hairs; n = 29.

[Veracruz:] Totutla, Galeotti 6405 (BR!; isotypes BR!, K!). Thelypteris pilosohispida is most closely related to T. rudis and is distinguished by the characters mentioned above. From other Oaxacan species it differs in the presence of costal scales, exindusiate sori, and lack of glands or hamate hairs.
