Description
Species Description - Rhizomes long-creeping, 0.8–1 mm diam.; rhizome hairs 1.5–2 mm long; fronds 10–30 x 4–10 cm, distant; stipes 0.5–1 mm diam., alate ca. 1/4–1/2 the length, with hairs stellate; blades pinnate-pinnatifid or pinnate-bipinnatifid, ovate-deltate; rachises alate with mixed stalked, stellate hairs and simple hairs; margins plane or undulate, entire; segments 0.8–1 mm wide; hairs on veins stalked, stellate and simple, sessile on margins, forked; involucres ovate-elliptic, 1 x 0.8–1 mm, margins with simple hairs, receptacles not exserted.

Hymenophyllum microcarpum is distinct by its large, deltate blades and stout, distally winged stipes.
