    Species Description - Rhizome erect; rhizome scales 2-3 mm long, 0.1-0.3 mm wide, concolorous, light brown, entire, prolonged into long, hairlike, uniseriate, often divided tip; fronds to 35 cm long, to 12 cm wide, clumped; stipe 1/3-½ the frond length, dark reddish-brown, glabrous except for rare scales at extreme base; blade lanceolate, bipinnate-pinnatifid to tripinnate; segments cuneate, coriaceous, glabrous, white farinose below, margin toothed, slightly recurved; veins free, depressed above; sori elongate along the veins, appearing as black specks scattered among the white farina; spores reddish-brown.

Ceropteris schaffneri Fée, Mém. foug. 8: 80. 1857. Pityrogramma schaffneri (Fée) Weatherby, Contr. Gray Herb. 114: 25. 1936. Syntypes. Mexico. Veracruz: “Près d’Orizaba,” Schaffner 165a, 165b (P?). Pityrogramma dealbata resembles P. calomelanos in having bipinnate-pinnatifid to tripinnate fronds and occurring at low elevations, but is distinct in its cuneate, ovate segments and its smaller fronds and rhizome scales.
