  • Description

    Species Description - Rhizome suberect; rhizome scales dark brown, lanceolate, 3-5 mm long, 1-1.5 mm wide, margin ciliate; fronds 40-70 cm long, clumped; stipe ½ the frond length, stramineous, densely scaly with appressed scales similar to those of rhizome; rachis with scales sparse, hairlike, twisted; blade ovate to lanceolate, 20-40 cm long 4-5(-7) pairs of pinnae, apical pinna conform; pinnae linear-lanceolate, 10-13 cm long, 1.5-3 cm wide, rounded to cuneate at base, lowermost pinnae inequilateral, excavate basiscopically, margin spinulose throughout, teeth 0.1-0.3 mm long; veins free or only occasionally with anastomoses, with scattered 0.1-0.3 mm hairs; sori in 2-3 rows, inner row 2-3 mm from costa; indusia light brown, 1 mm diam.

Veracruz: “Hacienda de la Laguna,” Schiede [760] (B!). Phanerophlebia nobilis most closely resembles P. remotispora but is distinguished by the former having fewer pinna pairs and free veins.
