    Species Description - Rhizome short-creeping, ca. 2 mm diam., surface castaneous; rhizome scales castaneous, linear-lanceolate, 1-1.5 mm long; fronds 25-85 cm long, clumped; stipe ca. 2 mm diam., stramineous to dark castaneous toward the base, glabrous; blade once-pinnate or with 1-2 pairs of pinnate pinnae, each ascending and nearly as long as the terminal conform pinna; rachis at insertion of basal pinnae terete to slightly flattened abaxially, flattened to shallowly grooved adaxially; rachillae terete at base, distally becoming quadrangular in cross section; segments many, mostly 10 x 5 (to 6 x 4) mm, arcuate; sori generally continuous, one per segment; indusium 0.2-0.5 mm wide, erose-laciniate.

For additional synonymy, see Kramer (1957). This is closely related to L. portoricensis and is often difficult to separate from it. Lindsaea stricta, however, has smaller segments, thicker texture and immersed, obscure veins.
