Description
Species Description - Rhizome long-creeping, 0.3 mm diam.; rhizome hairs 1.0 mm long; fronds 4-20 cm long, distant; stipe 2-3 mm diam., narrowly alate in distal ½, lightly pilose, hairs mostly simple; blade narrowly ovate; lower pinnae slightly reduced, 1.5-5 cm wide, pinnate-pinnatifid; rachis alate, undulate; segments 1-1.2 mm wide; margin entire, undulate to crisped; hairs on margin simple, hairs of costae rare, mostly stalked-stellate; in-dusial margin with simple hairs, receptacles not exserted.

Sphaerocionium schiedeanum Presl, Hymenophyllaceae 60. 1843. Hymenophyllum schiedeanum (Presl) van den Bosch, Ned. Kruidk. Arch. 5: 191. 1863. Type. Mexico. Schiede s.n. (PRC?). Hymenophyllum crispum resembles H. fendlerianum in its undulate-crispate segments but is distinct by the partially alate stipe whereas the stipe in the latter species is not at all alate.

Epiphytic or terrestrial in cloud forests; Choapan, Ixtlán, Mixe; 2500-2700 m. Mexico (Gro, Oax, Chis); Guat, CR; Jam; Col & Ven to Bol & s Braz.
