  • Description

    Species Description - Rhizome very short, horizontal, with proliferous roots; rhizome scales clathrate, linear, 1-1.5 mm long, 0.1 mm wide; fronds clumped, 1-2 cm long; stipe ½-2/3 the frond length; blade thin, dichotomously forked to toothed, flabellate, the segments narrow; veins free, idioblasts in upper epidermis; sori along the distal portions of the veins, superficial, indusium lacking, paraphyses uniseriate, 0.3 mm long; spores tetrahedral-globose, whitish-green.

    Gymnogramma pumila Sprengel, Syst. veg. Tent, suppl. 31. 1828. Type. Surinam. Weigelt s.n. (isotypes B, P). Because of its small size this species is very difficult to find, and may be more widespread than current records indicate.
