Description
Species Description - Aerial stems to 8 m tall (mostly 2-4 m tall in Oaxaca), with regular whorls of branches; stem 3-23 mm diam., with 16-48 ridges; sheath length to width ratio about 1:1.5, with dark margin on upper edge, otherwise the color of stem, occasional dark sheath at base of large specimen; stomata in one line on each side of the groove; branches with 6-8 ridges, ridges bearing tubercles resembling saw teeth pointing towards apex; strobili terminal on branches and main stem blunt or with slight apiculum; stem strobilus to 30 mm long, 12 mm diam.; branch strobili 10 mm long, 4 mm diam.

Distribution. Terrestrial in swampy or marshy places, usually seepage areas, usually more or less exposed; Cuicatlán, Ixtlán, Juquila, Mixe, Pochutla, Teotitlán?, Tlacolula?, Villa Alta; 750-2300 m. Mexico (Nay, Mich, Gro, NL, SLP, Tam, Hgo, Ver, Pue, Mex, Oax, Chis); Guat to Pan; Col, Ec, Peru.
