Description
Species Description - Rhizome short- to moderately creeping, 2-3 mm diam.; rhizome scales lanceolate, lustrous dark brown to black, with pale brown base, margin, and tip, 1-2 mm long, entire or with a few weak teeth; scales somewhat deciduous, often leaving a partially naked rhizome; phyllopodia distinct, 4-8 mm long; fronds slightly spaced apart, to 33 cm long, 5-10 mm wide; stipe 1/10-1/5 the frond length, naked or with minute ap-pressed scales; blade linear-elliptic, coriaceous, gradually acuminate at both ends; veins obscure, free, simple or once-forked, ca. 1 mm apart, at ca. 70° angle; hydathodes lacking; blade surfaces glabrous or with very sparse minute stellate reduced scales on the lower surface; fertile fronds slightly shorter than the sterile fronds, the stipe longer (1/3-½ the fertile frond length) and the blade broader (ca. 10 mm wide), scales lacking; spores with large round bumps or low ridges.

Acrostichum glabellum (J. Smith) Klotzsch, Linnaea 20:421. 1847. Type. Guyana. Schomburgk 447 (BM!; isotype US!). See E. parduei for comparison with that species.
