Description
Species Description - Similar to Ctenitis submarginalis except: rhizome scales 5-9 mm long, hairlike, subbullate, dark, margin entire; stipe with long scales near base like rhizome scales, dense underlayer of glandular hairs; rachis with subbullate, dark scales, 3-5 mm long, scattered ctenitoid hairs 0.3 mm long and dense glandular hairs; costae adaxially with dense glandular hairs and scattered, 0.3 mm long ctenitoid hairs, abaxially with subbullate scales 2-3 mm long, scattered, 0.3 mm long ctenitoid hairs, and dense glandular hairs; pinnae adaxially and abaxially with dense to scattered glandular hairs on laminar surface and rare 0.1 mm ctenitoid hairs on veins and margin; indusia 0.3-0.5 mm wide, glandular.

Aspidium strigilosum Davenport, Bot. Gaz. (Craw-fordsville) 21:256. 1896. Dryopteris strigilosa (Davenport) Christensen, Index filic. 295. 1906. Type. Mexico. Veracruz: Barranca of Metlac, Pringle 6077 (GH; isotype NY!). Ctenitis bullata A. R. Smith, found only in Chiapas, is distinguished from C. strigilosa and C. submarginalis by its larger glandular indusia (0.5-0.8 mm wide), 2-2.5 mm long bullate scales on the rachis, bullate scales (1-1.5 mm long) and 0.3-0.5 mm long ctenitoid hairs on the glandular costae abaxially, scattered 0.5-0.8 mm long ctenitoid hairs adaxially on the glandular costae, and scattered 0.5-0.8 mm long ctenitoid hairs and rare, glandular hairs on both sides of the pinnae.

Distribution
Terrestrial or on limestone cliffs in wet forests; 830-1440 m in Guatemala, 900 m in Veracruz. Mexico (Ver), Guat.
