  • Discussion

Pteris notholaenoides Desvaux, Mém. Soc. Linn. Paris 6: 299. 1827. Type. Hispaniola. Collector not stated (P!, photo GH). Cheilanthes aspidioides Fée, Mém. foug. 5: 157. 1852. Type. Mexico. Oaxaca: San Pedro Nolasco, Galeotti 6557 (P?; isotypes BR! —2 sheets). This species occurs at higher elevations than does C. microphylla. It has pinnules that at most have a single acroscopic lobe or auricle, and is much more densely hairy on its rachises than is C. microphylla, but lacks the 0.3-0.5 mm laminar hairs that C. microphylla has on both surfaces. See the key for a comparison with C. cucullans.
