Description
Species Description - Similar to B. schiedeanum except: stipe often dark purple; rachis dark purple; pinna margins crisped, entire to occasionally serrulate.

Lomaría varians Fournier, Mexic. pl. 1: 113. 1872. Syntypes. Mexico. Veracruz: Orizaba, Botteri 1420 in Herb. Van Heurck (AWH?); “In Valle Cordo-vensi,” Bourgeau 1826 (P!-6 sheets; NY!-2 sheets!). Blechnum varians is a rather rare species, if it is truly distinct from B. schiedeanum. See B. schiedeanum for comparison with B. falciforme.
