    Species Description - Rhizome short-creeping, 2-3 mm in diam., clothed with lanceolate scales 1.5-2 mm long and 0.3-0.4 mm wide above base. Fronds arching, mostly 40-75 cm long; stipes 15-40 cm long, brown at base, greenish-yellow distally, deeply grooved on adaxial side. Blades broadly oval in outline, 15-35 cm long and broad, 2-pinnate, with 1-3(-4) pairs of distant, oblique or ascending lateral pinnae and a similar terminal one; rhachis quadrangular, grooved on adaxial side; costae grooved on both sides; pinnae linear-attenuate, subequal, short-stalked, 9-25 cm long; pinnules 15-40 pairs, obliquely ascending, dimidiate- oblong, tongue-shaped, or rounded subrhomboid from a cuneate base, 12-20 mm long, 5-10 mm broad, the margins crenate when stersterile, entire when fertile; veins forked once or twice; tissue thin-herbaceous, pellucid. Sori submarginal, continuous; indusium membranous, very nanow, not equalling width of opposed margin.

    Distribution and Ecology - General Distribution. Puerto Rico, Lesser Antilles, and Venezuela; other subspecies of L. quadrangularis occur in Central and South America. Distribution in Puerto Rico. Known only from a few collections gathered in the Siena de Luquillo; recorded from Naguabo and Rio Grande. Habitat. Tenestrial in wet forest at middle to rather high elevations (300-950 m), rare.
