    Species Description - Plants often several together, forming a loose cluster; caudex erect, up to 2 m tall, usually covered with adnate stipe bases. Fronds mostly 1.2-1.5 m long; stipes dull brown, minutely scurfypubemlous throughout, with many scattered stout conic scurfy-pubemlous spines (2-)3-5 mm long, and clothed near base with lustrous, bicolorous, ovate-attenuate scales 10-12 mm long, these with dark brown centers and pale, minutely eroseciliolate margins. Blades ovate-oblong, 0.8-1 m broad, 2-pinnate-pinnatifid; rhachis, costae, and secondary costae (costules) minutely pubemlous in adaxial grooves; pinnae stalked, articulate, oblong-acuminate, up to 50 cm long, 15-18 cm broad, with up to 18 pairs of pinnules; pinnules sessile or subsessile, lance-oblong, deeply pinnatifid 2/3-3/4 to the costule, 1.8-2.3 cm broad, acuminate; costules with a few minute, scattered, pale brownish, buUate-attenuate scales abaxially; segments oblong, 4-7 mm broad, crenulate toward the acutish apex. Sori 4-7 pairs, supramedial, with no vestige of an indusium.
