  • Discussion

Lappula hirsuta Woot. & Standi., Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. 16: 164. 1913. Hackelia standleyi Brand, Pflanzenr. IV. 252(Heft 97): 121. 1931. nom. nud. Type. NEW MEXICO. Santa Fe County: 9 miles E of Santa Fe, Santa Fe Canyon, July 2, 1897, A. A. & E. Gertrude Heller 3793 (holotype, US 306419!; isotypes, MIN!, MO!). Hackelia hirsuta is restricted in distribution to northcentral New Mexico. It probably is related most closely to H. floribunda but differs from that species by the fornices, spreading inflorescence, and pubescence of somewhat longer and stiffer hairs.

  • Distribution

Habitat and distribution (Fig. 17). On dry bare hillsides or shale roadcuts, in oak canyons or woods, rarely on moist hillsides at elevations of (seldom as long as 6,000 feet) 7,200 to 9,200 feet, Northcentral New Mexico. Flowers in July.
