Description
Species Description - Woody-based, clump-forming, low, pubescent perennial; leaves mostly subbasal, pinnate, with numerous, ovate to elliptic-oblong leaflets 4-8 mm, 2.5-5 r\ heads exserted subtended by palmately divided bracts; flowers numerous, 9-12 mm; calyces 3-6 mm, pilose, with narrowly subulate, plumose teeth ± tube; corolla purple, red (-pink). European mountains. 2/7 = 12 (Guinochet and Lo-geois, 1962); In = 14 (Moore, 1973); 2n = 28 (Gilot, 1965).

Discussion
Anthyllis montana is a complex species that includes three seemingly confluent subspecies (Cullen, 1968), and the diversity in chromosome numbers suggests more than one taxon. Horticultural color forms are listed by Bailey and Bailey (1941).
