Description
Distribution and Ecology - Se Arizona, washes and canyons or other moist areas. Lower Sonoran, 5500 ft. Also novelty in cult. (July-)Aug.-Sept.

Discussion
Ditremexa glaberrima (Jones) Britt. & Rose (1930) Cassia gooddingii A. Nelson (1936) Britton and Rose (1930) and Nelson (1936) treated this plant as a local species, and Kearney, Peebles et al. (1960) maintained it as a variety of C. leptocarpa Benth. as originally described. C. leptocarpa (type from Brazil) extends from Paraguay and Uraguay at least to central-western Mexico (Sinaloa), and the level of its disjunction from var. glaberrima of northern Sonora and adjacent United States is uncertain. Meso-American plants differ from ours in duration and habit, somewhat in pubescence, leaflet proportions, and shape of the gland. Since the level of differentiation is slight, I regard C. leptocarpa of the United States as a peripheral variety of a wide-ranging species. It is locally abundant in southern Arizona.
