Description
Species Description - Strict, erect or branched and spreading, puberulent and usually ciliate-pilose, desert annual, l-4(-6) dm. Leafstalk 3-6(-9) cm, with a slender-stalked, discoid to subclavate petiolar gland; leaflets 10-16(-20) pairs (fewer on lower leaves of depauperate plants), sessile, oblong, 6-12 mm, 3-5 r, mucronate, ciliate with long and short hairs, asymmetrically 1-3 nerved. Stipules lanceolate, striate, persistent, but not conspicuous. Flowers 1-2 in leaf axils or supra-axillary on pedicels 2-3 mm that slightly elongate in fruit. Sepals equal, 4-5 mm, lanceolate; corolla yellow, irregular, the larger petals 5-6 mm, the smaller ca 3 mm, elliptic to broadly cuneate-obovate; stamens 5-7, unequal; pistil puberulent. Legume elastically dehiscent, flat, oblong, straight or curved, 2-4 cm long, 3-4 mm wide; valves thick-papery, puberulent. Seeds bumpy, few-several.

Chamaecrista leptadenia (Greenm.) Cock. (1908) The only New Mexico record seen, a 19th century collection from the Organ Mts., is not mapped (Map 44).

Distribution
W Texas and se Arizona. Rocky slopes, desert grassland to washes and canyon floors, occasional in ruderal or agricultural areas, igneous to sandy soil. 3000-6000 ft. (June-)Aug.-Sept. Mexico.
