    Species Description - Glabrate to glabrous, eglandular, essentially unarmed shrub. Leafstalk 8-12 cm; pinnae 2-4 pairs plus 1 or not; leaflets 2-6 pairs, petiolulate, obovate-elliptic, rounded both ends, symmetric or not, 1-3 cm, 1.3-1.7 r, evidently veined, shiny above. Flowers in short (less than 1 dm), solitary or clustered terminal racemes. Pedicels 1-2 cm, jointed; calyx lobes imbricate, unequal, outer largest, cucullate in bud, ovate-lanceolate, ca 8 mm; petals yellowish-white, ca 1.5 cm. Legume elastically dehiscent, stipitate, oblong, 6-9 cm long, 1.5 cm wide.

  • Discussion

    Specimens from nursery areas in Marion and Hillsborough cos., and present in the Fairchild Garden, Miami, Florida. The species resembles C. bahamensis Lam. and is perhaps only subspecifically distinct.
