Discussion
Rare, known from a modern (1954) collection only from Uvalde Co., Texas, hypothetically extending west to the s New Mexico-Arizona border. The rationale of var. chamaedrys has previously been presented (Isely, 1972). Its history suggests a mirage but, as indicated by the key, it differs from var. eriophylla in too many characters to be ignored. Three ancient specimens of Wright and Parry, locate this form in west Texas and at the New Mexico-Arizona boundary.
