    Description - Plant propagating by rhizomes, flowering 2-6 dm high; leaves 2-15 dm long; sheaths suborbicular, 2-8 cm wide, glabrous above and the lower half beneath, the upper half beneath covered with coarse brown subspreading scales; blades linear, attenuate, not at all constricted at base, 2 cm wide, glabrous above, covered with white ap-pressed scales beneath, laxly serrate with uncinate teeth 4-7 mm long, the basal teeth recurved, the others ascending. Scape erect, elongate; scape-bracts subfoliaceous, densely imbricate. Inflorescence ellipsoid or short-cylindric, much longer than wide, 4 cm in diameter; primary bracts broadly elliptic, covering all but the apices of the flowers, the lowest with small foliaceous blades; branches short, few-flowered. Floral bracts exceeding the ovary, oblong, obtuse, cucullate, carinate, serrulate, white-lepidote; flowers subfasciculate, subsessile, 32-39 mm long. Sepals free, oblong, obtuse and cucullate, 12-15(-20) mm long, carinate, conduplicate, densely white-lepidote; petals erect, lilac; filaments connate for 5 mm; ovary slenderly ellipsoid, densely white-lepidote.
