  • Description

    Description - Stem evident, 3 dm long. Leaves over 1 m long; sheaths evident, elliptic or narrowly elliptic, entire, coarsely lepidote with dark brown appressed scales; blades linear, long-acuminate to a slender involute-subulate apex but not pungent, to 28 mm wide, entire except for a few minute spines near base and apex, pale lepidote beneath. Inflorescences lateral on very short strongly compressed scapes, ellipsoid, acute, simple, about 12-flowered, mostly dark castaneous; outer bracts broadly triangular-ovate, with narrow pale margins, dull or sublustrous, obscurely pale-lepidote, serrate toward apex with spines 1 mm long. Floral bracts inconspicuous, hidden at anthesis; flowers subsessile. Sepals lanceolate, terminally mucronate, 20 mm long, carinulate, glabrous, dark castaneous at apex, elsewhere pale green, sparsely lepidote; petals bright lavender (! Camp), the blades elliptic ca 15 mm long; stamens included.
