  • Family

    Moraceae

  • Scientific Name

    Naucleopsis pseudonaga (Mildbr.) C.C.Berg

  • Description

Species Description - Completion of the description: Infructescences subglobose, ca. 14 cm diam, when dry, to 20 cm diam, when fresh; involucral bracts to 2 cm long; free parts of the tepals spine-like to subpyramidate, 5-8 mm long, densely puberulous to subhispidulous; fruits ca. 3.5 × 2.5 cm.

  • Discussion

The lateral veins are loop-connected rather far (2-4 mm) from the margin, and tend to be faintly or hardly loop-connected even in the upper part of the lamina. This feature in combination with the short (usually to ca. 1 cm long) stipules helps to separate this species from other species with small to medium-sized leaves. The collection from Colombia differs somewhat in the relatively large leaves and the stipules, being distinctly longer than 1 cm (to ca. 1.5 cm long) and stiff, resembling those of Naucleopsis glabra.

  • Distribution

In the upper Amazon Basin, from Loreto (Peru) to Pando (Bolivia) and Acre (Brazil), and apparently disjunctly in Vaupés (Colombia), known from a single record; in non-inundated forest; at low elevations.
