Discussion
The petiole is often differentiated into a lower part, which is thicker and in dry material dark-brown with a ± cracked surface, and an upper part, which is thinner and in dry material pale brown and smooth. It is not quite certain whether Naucleopsis imitans can be maintained as a distinct species; the differences between it and N. glabra are largely quantitative, N. imitans being in all parts more robust than N. glabra.
