Description
Subspecies Description - Stem often with some of the internodes or sometimes almost all of them long. Lamina reniform (to suborbicular or to cordiform), usually somewhat broader than long, sometimes variegated, margin ± coarsely crenate-dentate to sinuate, sometimes sublobate or to 3-5-fid, to 8.5 cm long, to 10 cm broad; upper surface with rather dense, minute, conical hairs, usually scabrous to scabridulous; lateral veins 3-4(-5), terminating at the margin; petiole mostly to 10 cm long, sometimes to 20 cm long; stipules to 0.2(-0.3) cm long. Receptacle mostly ca. 1 cm diam.

Discussion
Subspecies asaroides is distinct in its reniform lamina and relatively small plant parts. Specimens with large leaves can be regarded as transitional to subsp, vitifolia.

Distribution
In northern central Brazil and Amazonian Brazil; in shade or half-shade, or sometimes in open places, often on sandy soil; associated with cerrado and savanna vegetation; at low elevations.
