Description
Species Description - Herb, to ca. 30 cm tall, rhizomatous; stem 2.5-4 mm thick, sparsely to rather densely puberulous to hirtellous with retrorse straight and uncinate hairs; internodes 1-2 cm long. Leaves in spirals; lamina oblong (to lanceolate or to elliptic), 3-12 × 1.5-5 cm, membranaceous to chartaceous; apex acute, sometimes almost rounded; base subacute to subobtuse; margin subentire to repand or ± coarsely crenate; upper surface scabridulous; lower surface scabridulous, on the veins puberulous to hirtellous with straight and uncinate hairs; lateral veins 8-12 pairs, (faintly) loop-connected; tertiary venation reticulate; petiole 0.5-1.5(-2.5) cm long, puberulous to hirtellous with retrorse, predominantly uncinate hairs; stipules triangular, often swollen at the base, or to subulate, to 0.25 cm long, uninervate, puberulous. Inflorescences on minute short-shoots with reduced stipules, green; peduncle 1.5-3.5 cm long, gradually passing into the receptacle, sparsely puberulous to hirtellous with retrorse, predominantly uncinate hairs; receptacle (almost) centrally attached, broadly turbinate, (sub)orbicular in outline, 0.8-1.7 cm diam., the outside (rather) sparsely appressed-puberulous to strigillose, predominantly with uncinate hairs, the margin entire, the fringe ca. 1 mm broad, rather sparsely and minutely puberulous; bracts in ca. 3 rows on and below the margin and on the fringe, appressed, broadly ovate to semiorbicular, to 1 mm long, sparsely minutely puberulous; staminate flowers mainly peripheral, a few among the pistillate flowers; tepals 2; stamens 2; filaments shorter than the perianth; stigmas equal or unequal in length, ca. 0.5 mm long, often purplish. Endocarp body ca. 2.5 × 2 mm, tuberculate.

Discussion
The inflorescences of Dorstenia umbricola are very similar to those of D. choconiana. The relatively broad (to elliptic) lamina resembles that of D. peruviana, but it has fewer lateral veins, 8-12 vs. 10-18 pairs.

Distribution
In Peru (Loreto) and Ecuador (Morona-Santiago, Napo, and Pastaza); in rain forest undergrowth; at low elevations.
