Description
Species Description - Herb, to 40 cm tall, from a horizontal coralloid rhizome; stem 1.5-4 mm thick, puberulous to hispidulous to hirtellous to subhispid, with retrorse to patent, partly with uncinate, hairs; internodes 0.8-2 cm long. Leaves in spirals; lamina oblong or elliptic to obovate, 6-14.5 × 2-5 cm, chartaceous; apex acute to subacuminate; base acute to obtuse; margin subentire to faintly crenate; upper surface scabridulous, subglabrous; lower surface sparsely minutely puberulous on midrib; lateral veins 7-12, faintly loop-connected; tertiary venation reticulate; petiole 0.7-2.5 cm long, ca. 1 mm thick, minutely puberulous; stipules triangular to lanceolate, 0.1-0.15 cm long, uninervate, appressed or often, from the first or only later, patent or reflexed, puberulous. Inflorescences on minute short-shoots, green to yellowish, the flowering face purple; peduncle 0.5-1.7 cm long, passing gradually into the receptacle, minutely puberulous; receptacle ± eccentrically attached, broadly turbinate, ± angular in outline, ca. 0.2-1 cm diameter, the outside minutely puberulous, the margin lobed, lobes narrow, ± alternating longer (ca. 1 mm) and shorter (ca. 0.5 mm) lobes, the fringe very narrow; bracts in 2 rows, a row on the receptacle lobes and a row in the hollows between lobes, submarginal, ovate to deltoid, ca. 0.5-1 mm long, minutely puberulous; staminate flowers among pistillate ones; tepals 2; stamens 2; filaments about as long as the perianth; stigmas not seen. Endocarp body ca. 2.5 × 2 mm, slightly tuberculate.

Discussion
This species shows strong similarities to both Dorstenia choconiana and D. umbricola.

Distribution
In Mexico (Veracruz); on rock outcrops and steep slopes in high-precipitation rain forest; at low elevations.
