Subspecies Description - Lamina to 10 × 5.5 cm; apex mostly rounded to obtuse, sometimes subacute or shortly acuminate; base cordulate to rounded; lower surface hirtellous to tomentose; all veins (very) prominent beneath. Staminate inflorescences capitate.

  • Discussion

This subspecies is rather uniform. Some of the collections from Bolivia show features ± transitional to subsp. sprucei. They match the indumentum of the leaves of subsp. saxicola, but the apex of the lamina is often acuminate to subacute as typical of subsp. sprucei. Moreover, some Bolivian collections are more similar to subsp. sprucei in the dimensions, the apex, and the venation of the lamina than to subsp. saxicola and are, therefore, listed under the former taxon. The differences between subsp. sprucei and subsp. saxicola show similarities to those of the two subspecies of Madura tinctoria.
