  • Discussion

Recent evidence from chloroplast DNA analysis shows a close relationship between Polypremum and Tetrachondra (Tetrachondraceae) (Oxelman et. al., 1999). I have not seen any reproductive material of the two species of Tetrachondra which are inhabitants of Patagonia, Chile, and New Zealand. The descriptions of Skottsberg (1912) and Cheeseman (1906) indicate many morphological similarities between the two genera in habit, leaf, and floral size and shape. Tetachondra lacks erect branches, the corollas lack the moniliform hairs found in the throat, and each fruit has only four seeds.
