Description
Species Description - Tree ca. 8 m tall (trunk 4 m tall, dbh 8 cm, diameter of crown ca. 7 m), the young stems densely stellate-pubescent. blades lance-oblong to obovate, 14-44 x 5-20 cm, basally narrowly cordate, serrate, acuminate, penninerved (the midrib raised above and beneath, densely pubescent), the upper surface with simple erect hairs ca. 0.5 mm long, the lower surface stellate-pubescent; petioles 1.5-3.5 cm long distally to 12 cm below; stipules divided into 3(-4) distinct unequal elements, the largest 2.5-3 x 4-6 mm, ligulate to falcate, pubescent. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils, the pedicels to 5.5 cm long, stout (3-5 mm diam.); involucellar bracts ca. 7, spatulate, 25-30 x 5-7 mm, with a stout midrib/stipe, densely pubescent; calyx 16-17 mm long, yellowish-pubescent; corolla ca. 2 cm long, tubular, yellow-green, glabrous (fleshy?); genitalia exserted, subequal to involucel. Fruits 12-14 mm diam., glabrous and shiny, weakly 10-ribbed; mericarps 17 mm tall, much longer than the reduced column.

The unique feature of Pavonia crassipedicellata, as the name suggests, is the stout pedicel, which is 3-5 mm thick. -
Distribution
From the Atlantic coast of Espirito Santo, Brazil. The type locality is approximately at 19°0'S, 39°58'W.
