Description
Description - Leaves 10-20 in a dense rosette that is not constricted at apex, erect, to 26 cm long; sheaths very broadly ovate, large, densely lepidote; blades ligulate, broadly rounded, minutely apiculate, to 32 mm wide, concolorous, entire or the inner obscurely serrulate, subglabrous, the outer green, the inner reddish. Inflorescence simple, many-flowered, deeply sunk in the rosette; outer bracts broadly ovate, triangular-acute, subpungent, sparsely lepidote toward apex, the upper ones exceeding the flowers. Floral bracts linear, acute, nearly equaling the sepals, straight and not incurved, glabrous or sparsely lepidote toward apex, entire, membranaceous, ecarinate; pedicels 5 mm or longer; flowers well over 40 mm long. Sepals slightly asymmetric, sublanceolate, acute, not incurved, 29 mm long, connate for 10 mm; petals red; ovary slenderly ellipsoid, 10 mm long, 4 mm in diameter, glabrous, epigynous tube evident.
