Variety Description - Lfts of major lvs 8-14 pairs, the terminal pair (10-) 11-26 x (3.5-)4-9.5(-10) mm, 1.8-3.6 times as long as wide; otherwise as given in description and varietal key. [Key: "Beak of 4 median anthers lateral, divergent from the theca at ±90°; petioles 6-15(-18) mm, mostly 1-2 times as long as the first interfoliolar segment of rachis; Hispaniola, Jamaica. Petiolar gland between proximal pair of lfts only; pod (3-)4.5-7.5(-8) x 0.5-0.7(-0.8) cm; Hispaniola."]—Collections: 91.
Distribution and Ecology - Thickets, roadsides, sometimes on limestone or serpentine barrens, from sea level up to 700(-1050) m, widespread and locally abundant over Hispaniola w. ward from a line drawn through Dominican Republic between San Juan and Puerto Plata.—Fl. abundantly IX-III, sporadically through the year.—Early cultivated on Guadeloupe (Basseterre, P, hb. Richard.) and from mid-XVII cent, in w. Europe.
