Species Description - Lfts 3-4 pairs per pinna, the first pair often not quite opposite, the larger (distal) lfts 5—14(—16.5) x 1.9-3.2 cm, all either glabrous overall, or glabrous ciliolate, or densely softly pilosulous overall; inflorescence and fruits of var. haematocephala.
Distribution and Ecology - In premontane scrub-woodland, shrub-savanna, and in sunny places along rivers in premontane forest, 290-950 m, of bicentric range in the foothills of the Bolivian Andes in deptos. La Paz and Sta. Cruz: on tributaries of Río Beni in Nor and Sur Yungas; and on headwaters of Río Mamor, in distritos Sará, A. Ibáñez, and Ichilo; in cultivation in Paraguay (Boquerón). — Map 30. — Fl. III-VIII.
Variation - In La Paz the stems and leaflets are consistently glabrous, differing in this feature as well as in leaf-formula from most sympatric var. haematocephala. In Santa Cruz glabrous and softly pubescent forms are found close together, although not, so far, in mixed populations.
