Description
Species Description - Perennial, from short erect rhizomes, glabrous or pubescent, to 200 cm tall. Leaves emersed greenish-brown, petiolate; blades ovate to ovate-lanceolate, entire, with 7-11 veins, 8.5-41 cm long, 4.9-26 cm wide, without pellucid markings, the apex acute to round-acute to retuse, the base cordate to truncate; petioles terete, ridged, glabrous to scabrous, longer than blade, 17-41 cm long, 3-5 mm diam., the base with a sheath to 15 cm long. Inflorescence paniculate or rarely racemose, of 7-14 whorls, erect, overtopping the leaves, mostly without vegetative proliferations, the whorls with 8-20 flowers, the rachis cylindric and ridged to triangular between whorls, glabrous or stellate pubescent; peduncles cylindric and ridged, 28.5-50 cm long, 0.3-1 cm diam.; bracts lanceolate, coarse throughout, shorter than pedicels, 0.3-2.5 cm long, 2.5-4 mm wide, the apex acute; pedicels spreading in flower and fruit, cylindric to triangular, 04-3.5 cm long, 0.3-0.8 mm diam. Flowers 15-25 mm wide; sepals spreading, 19-25-veined, 4.1-4.5 mm long, 3.5-5.8 mm wide, the veins without papillae; petals without claws, 6.4-10.5 mm long, 4.5-74 mm wide; stamens 18-20, the anthers versatile, 0.7-1.5 mm long, the apex obtuse, the filaments 0.5-1.5 mm long; carpels numerous. Fruit obovate, flattened, 2-4-ribbed, slightly keeled, glandular, separating when mature, 2.3-2.8 mm long, 1-1.5 mm wide, the glands 1-5, linear-elliptic, between the ribs, the beak lateral, erect, 0.5-1 mm long.
