    Species Description - Perennial, from short rhizomes, rachis and pedicels pubescent of simple hairs, to 50 cm tall. Leaves emersed, dark green-brown, petiolate; blades ovate-elliptic, with 7 veins, 7.5-14 cm long, 1.2-10.5 cm wide, the pellucid markings absent, the apex round-obtuse to slightly acute, the base attenuate; petioles triangular, slightly longer than blade, 7-10 mm diam., the base with a sheath to 10 cm long. Inflorescence racemose, of 4-11 whorls, slightly overtopping the leaves, without vegetative proliferations, to 53 cm long, to 7 cm wide, the whorls with 3-6 flowers, the rachis triangular between whorls; peduncles terete below, triangular above, 19.7-23.6 cm long, 2.5-3.5 mm diam.; bracts lanceolate, coarse throughout, as long as or longer than pedicels, 5.6-6.5 mm long, 0.2-0.4 mm wide, the apex acuminate; pedicels spreading in flower, ascending in fruit, flattened, to 5.5 mm long, to 0.5 mm diam. Flowers ca. 2 cm wide; sepals spreading, 14-18-veined, 4.5-4.8 mm long, 4.2-4.5 mm wide, the veins short pubescent; petals without claws, ca. 7.5 mm long, ca. 4.5 mm wide; stamens ca. 18, the anthers versatile, to 1.5 mm long, the apex rounded, the filaments to 1.4 mm long; carpels numerous. Fruit obovate, terete, 4-6-ribbed, slightly keeled, glandular, to 1.5 mm long, 0.7-0.9 mm wide, the glands 2, elliptic, transected by ribs, the beak lateral, erect, 0.5-0.6 mm long.

    Endemic to Bahia and Piaui, Brazil. Flowering and fruiting in March and April; elev. ca. 500 m.
