  • Description

    Species Description - Plants to 4 cm high, blackish below, yellowish green above. Stems tomentose. Leaves 5-7 mm long, narrow lanceolate; not appressed as in other species of Pilopogon but erect spreading when dry. Costa half as broad as the leaf base, excurrent in a denticulate point, smooth at back. Alar cells well differentiated, inflated, reddish brown. Basal laminal cells elongated, thick-walled and pitted, 7-10 × 40-60 µm, narrower and shorter at margins. Upper laminal cells elongated oval, incrassate, 3-6 × 16-24 µm. Perichaetial leaves short, reaching half the length of the seta. Capsule 2 mm long, cylindric, (3-)4 times long or longer as broad. Operculum longly rostrate, as long as or longer as the urn. Peristome teeth 16, filiform, split to the base, densely papillose. Calyptra cucullate, longly fringed at base. Spores ca. 13 µm in diam., yellowish, smooth.
