    Species Description - Tree, young shoots appressed puberulous, soon glabrous, greyish-white, roughened, lenticellate. Leaves clustered, spirally arranged, 8-17 × 4.27.2 cm, broadly oblanceolate, apex narrowly attenuate, obtuse or rounded, base acute, thinly coriaceous, glabrous above, finely appressed puberulous below; indumentum becoming sparser with age; venation eucamptodromous, marginal vein present, midrib sunken on the upper surface, secondary veins 10-14 pairs, parallel, arcuate, slightly impressed on upper surface; intersecondaries absent; tertiaries numerous, fine, oblique to horizontal; fine areolate quaternary reticulum sometimes visible. Petiole 1-1.7 cm long, channelled in the upper half, appressed puberulous, stipels present, paired, 1-2 mm long, lanceolate-linear, fixed 4-7 mm above base of petiole. Fascicles 2-6-flowered, on twigs below leaves. Pedicel 0-1 mm long, appressed puberulous. Sepals five, 2-2.5 mm long, broadly elliptic to suborbicular, apex rounded, appressed puberulous outside, glabrous inside. Corolla ca. 4 mm long, tube about equalling the lobes, lobes five, broadly ovate, rounded, sericeous outside on tube and base of lobes, glabrous inside. Stamens five, fixed at the top of the corolla tube; filaments ca. 2 mm long, glabrous; anthers ca. 1 mm long, lanceolate, glabrous. Ovary broadly conical, five-locular, appressed puberulous; style ca. 0.5 mm long, glabrous; style-head simple. Fruit 4.5-5.5 cm long, broadly ellipsoid, sometimes asymmetric, apex and base acute, smooth, indumentum of sparse fine appressed hairs. Seed solitary, 3.5-3.8 cm long, ? slightly laterally compressed, testa smooth; scar adaxial, 5-6 mm wide; embryo with plano-convex, free cotyledons, radicle exserted ca. 4 mm; endosperm absent. Field characters. Tree to 30 m high and 80 cm diam., larger specimens buttressed; latex present. Fruit maturing dull orange. Flowering Sep (Venezuela: Delta Amacuro), fruit Dec to Mar.
