Description
Latin Diagnosis - Arbor; ramuli novelli adpresse puberuli, mox glabri, cinerascentibrunnei, laeves, lenticellis prominentibus muniti. Folia dissita, subverticillata, 9-17.5 × 4-8 cm, late oblanceolate usque obovata, apice obtusa vel rotundata, basi acuta, coriacea, supra glabra, infra pilis sparsis brevibus adpressis vestita vel subglabra; venatio eucamptodroma; nervus marginalis praesens; costa supra impressa; nervi secundarii 16-20-jugi, paralleli, recti vel leviter arcuati, supra leviter impressi; nervi intersecundarii nulli; nervi tertiarii numerosi, tenues, obliqui; nervi quatemarii subtiliter areolati. Petiolus 0.7-1.5 cm longus, ad apicem canaliculata, glaber, stipellae nullae. Fasciculi 10-15-flori, axillares et sub foliis dispositi. Pedicellus 2-3 mm longus, adpresse puberulus. Sepala quinque, ca. 2 mm longa, late ovata usque suborbicularia, apice obtusa vel rotundata, extus adpresso-puberula, lato margine glabro, intus glabra. Corolla ca. 5 mm longa; tubus ca. 1.5 mm longus, lobi quinque, ca. 3.5 mm longi, anguste elliptici vel oblongi, apice rotundata extus rigide sericei, intus glabri. Stamina quinque, ad basim lobos corollae affixa; filamenta 3-4 mm longa, glabra; antherae 1.2-1.8 mm longae, lanceolatae, glabrae. Ovarium ovoideum, five-loculare, longe strigosum; stylus post anthesin ca. 2 mm longus, glaber; styli capitulum simplex. Fructus 3-3.5 cm longus, late oblongo-ellipticus, interdum asymmetricus, apice obtusus vel apiculatus, basi obtusus, vadose et irregulariter costatus et verruculosus, granu-lari-papillosus. Semen solitarium, 2-2.5 cm longum, oblongo-ellipsoideum, leviter asymmetrcum, lateraliter non compressum, testa laevis, nitida, 0.3-0.7 mm crassa; cicatrix adaxialis, per longitudinem, 2-3 mm lata; embryo cotyledon-ibus plano-convexis, liberis, radicula ca. 1 mm exserta; albumen nullum.
Species Description - Tree, young shoots appressed puberulous, soon glabrous, grey-brown, smooth, with prominent brown lenticels. Leaves spaced, subverticillate, 9-17.5 × 4-8 cm, broadly oblanceolate to obovate, apex obtuse or rounded, base acute, coriaceous, upper surface glabrous, lower surface with sparse fine short appressed indumentum to subglabrous; venation eucamptodromous, marginal vein present, midrib sunken on the upper surface, secondary veins 16-20 pairs, parallel, straight or slightly arcuate, slightly impressed on the upper surface; intersecondaries absent; tertiaries numerous, fine, oblique; quaternaries finely areolate. Petiole 0.7-1.5 cm long, channelled at the apex, glabrous, stipels absent. Fascicles 10-15-flowered, axillary and below the leaves. Pedicel 2-3 mm long, appressed puberulous. Sepals five, ca. 2 mm long, broadly ovate to suborbicular, apex obtuse or rounded, appressed puberulous outside, with a broad glabrous margin, glabrous inside. Corolla ca. 5 mm long, tube ca. 1.5 mm long, lobes five, ca. 3.5 mm long, narrowly elliptic or oblong, apex rounded, stiffly sericeous outside, glabrous inside. Stamens five, fixed at the base of the corolla lobes; filaments 3-4 mm long, glabrous; anthers 1.2-1.8 mm long, lanceolate, glabrous. Ovary ovoid, five-locular, long-strigose; style ca. 2 mm long after anthesis, glabrous; style-head simple. Fruit 3-3.5 cm long, broadly oblong-elliptic, sometimes asymmetric, apex obtuse or apiculate, base obtuse, shallowly and irregularly ribbed and verruculose, granular-papillose. Seed solitary, 2-2.5 cm long, oblong-ellipsoid, slightly asymmetric, not laterally compressed, testa smooth, shining, 0.3-0.7 mm thick; scar adaxial, full-length, 2-3 mm wide; embryo with plano-convex, free cotyledons, radicle exserted ca. 1 mm; endosperm absent. Field characters. Tree to 10 m high with white latex; flower reddish-green, fruit maturing yellow. Flowering May-Jun, fruit Dec.
