    Species Description - Tree; young shoots finely appressed puberulous to shortly pubescent, soon glabrous, pale grey to dark brown, finely cracked and usually lenticellate. Leaves spaced or loosely clustered, spirally arranged, 9-18.3 × 3.2-7.3 cm, oblanceolate to oblong, apex shortly attenuate, obtuse or rounded, base narrowly attenuate, margin usually revolute, coriaceous, glabrous; venation eucamptodromous, midrib slightly raised on the upper surface, secondary veins 9-16 pairs, parallel, arcuate or straight; intersecondaries usually absent; tertiaries oblique to reticulate. Petiole 0.6-3 cm long, not channelled, usually glabrous. Fascicles 2-10-flowered, mostly axillary. Pedicel 0.41.7 cm long, appressed puberulous to glabrous. Flowers bisexual. Sepals four, 0.7-1.1 cm long, outer shorter than inner, broadly ovate or elliptic, apex acute to rounded, appressed puberulous outside, often with a broad glabrous margin, appressed puberulous near the margin inside, or glabrous. Corolla broadly cylindrical, 1-1.6 cm long, tube 0.65-1.1 cm long, lobes 6-8, 3.5-4 mm long, oblong to narrowly elliptic, apex acute to obtuse, usually scattered appressed hairy on the outside of lobes, rarely glabrous, papillose. Stamens 6-8, fixed near the top of the corolla tube; filaments 1-1.75 mm long, not geniculate, glabrous; anthers 1.75-2 mm long, lanceolate, glabrous. Staminodes 6-8, 2-3.5 mm long, narrowly lanceolate to subulate, papillose. Disk absent. Ovary broadly cylindrical with a truncate apex, or globose, 6-15-locular, shortly pubescent; style 0.7-1.1 cm long after anthesis, pubescent in the lower half; style-head capitate or minutely lobed. Fruit 3.5-6 cm long, globose to depressed globose, sometimes considerably broader than long, and constricted between the seeds, apex and base rounded to truncate, smooth, pubescent to velutinous, indumentum sometimes falling before maturity. Seeds one-several, 3-3.5 cm long, shape variable dependent on number of seeds in fruit, testa smooth, shining, 0.75-1 mm thick; scar adaxial, broadly elliptic or extending over the seed to cover up to three quarters of the surface; embryo with plano-convex, free cotyledons, radicle extending to the surface; endosperm absent. Field characters. Tree to 15 m high and 30 cm diam. with thick bark, and viscid white latex. Flowers pale green, fruit with reddish-brown indumentum. Flowering recorded Jan-Sep, fruit Sep-Oct.
