Leaves spaced, spirally arranged, (4.7-)6-21 × (1.3-)2.5-8.5 cm, elliptic, oblong or oblanceolate, apex acute, narrowly attenuate, obtusely cuspidate, obtuse, rounded or retuse, base narrowly attenuate, rarely revolute, usually coriaceous, upper surface glabrous, lower surface glaucous or not, appressed puberulous with minute closely appressed pale hairs, or glabrous; venation brochidodromous, marginal vein usually present, secondary veins sometimes joining to form a submarginal vein, midrib slightly raised on the upper surface, secondaries 10-20 pairs, parallel, mostly straight, usually impressed on the upper surface, and sometimes impressed on both surfaces; intersecondaries usually extending to near the margin; tertiaries parallel to secondaries, often obscure. Petiole 0.4-2 cm long, not or only slightly channelled, subglabrous. Fascicles 2-2 5-flowered, axillary and below the leaves. Pedicel 0.4-1 cm long, sparsely and minutely appressed puberulous. Flowers unisexual (plant dioecious). Sepals (4-)5(-6), 2-3 mm long, ovate, apex acute or obtuse, sparsely and minutely appressed puberulous outside, glabrous or with some minute appressed indumentum inside. Corolla cyathiform or shortly tubular, 1.75-3.5(-4) mm long, tube 0.75-2 mm long, equalling or slightly shorter than the lobes, lobes (4-)5(-8), 1-2.5 mm long, lanceolate to ovate, apex acute to rounded, glabrous or occasionally with sparse minute appressed indumentum at base of tube outside. Stamens (4-)5(-8), fixed in the upper half of the corolla tube, usually near or at the apex; filaments 0-0.75 mm long, glabrous; anthers 0.7-1 (-1.25) mm long, lanceolate or ovate, glabrous; stamens absent in female. Staminodes 0-3(-5), usually vestigial, but occasionally up to 1 mm long, lanceolate, glabrous, or bearing vestigial anthers. Disk absent. Ovary truncate, ovoid or conical, 2(-4)-locular, shortly pubescent; style 0.5-1 mm long after anthesis, appressed puberulous to glabrous; style-head simple or minutely lobed. Fruit 2.3-5.5 cm long, oblong to ovoid, apex rounded or obtuse, base acute to tapered, sometimes forming a short stipe, smooth, with residual indumentum of minute appressed hairs at least near base. Seed one(two), 1.4-2.7 cm long, ellipsoid to broadly oblong, rounded or obtuse at apex and base, laterally compressed, testa smooth, shining, 0.3-1.5 mm thick; scar adaxial, full-length and sometimes extending around the base, 1-3(-5) mm wide; embryo with plano-convex, free cotyledons, radicle extending to the surface; endosperm absent.
