Leaves 1.7-10.2 × 0.9-4(-5.7) cm, oblanceolate, elliptic, oblong-elliptic or broadly oblong, apex rounded and emarginate, rarely obtuse, base truncate, rounded, obtuse, acute or narrowly attenuate, glabrous above, usually glabrous below, occasionally with sparse tomentum on midrib or lamina; coriaceous; midrib sunken on the upper surface; secondaries 10-16 pairs, higher order venation finely and often prominently areolate. Petiole 0.3-1.5(-2.5) cm long, often prominently areolate. Petiole 0.3-1.5(-2.5) cm long, slightly channelled, puberulous to glabrous. Flowers 2-5 in a fascicle. Pedicel 1-2 cm long, puberulous to glabrous. Sepals 4-7.5 mm long, lanceolate, acute, shortly tomentose, puberulous or glabrous outside, appressed puberulous to subglabrous inside, sometimes ciliate. Corolla nearly always glabrous, rarely pubescent on outer face of lobes, 4-9.5 mm long, tube 1-2 mm long, lobes 6(-8), divided to base into three segments, median segment narrowly boat-shaped, clawed, apex usually rounded, lateral segments shorter than the median segment (2-4 mm long), narrowly lanceolate or falcate, apices acute, sometimes with a few lateral teeth. Stamens 6(-8) glabrous; filaments 1.5-3.5 mm long, free or shortly fused to the staminodes; anthers 2-3 mm long, lanceolate-sagittate, connective sometimes produced into a short apiculus. Staminodes 6(-8) glabrous, 1.5-2 mm long, lanceolate to oblong, apex entire or toothed. Ovary ovoid to conical, 6-12-locular, densely pubescent to appressed puberulous; style 0.35-1.1 cm long after anthesis, pubescent, puberulous or glabrous. Fruit 2.3-4.2 × 2-4.3 cm, globose or depressed globose, apex and base rounded or truncate, often with persistent style base, rough-skinned and scaly. Seeds 3-5 (more ?), 1.4-1.8 cm long, laterally compressed, sometimes with a sharp abaxial keel, with a hard, smooth, shiny testa 1-2 mm thick; scar basi-ventral, 9-10 × 1-1.5 mm.
