Stipules absent. Leaves (1.5-)3-10.5 × 0.7-2.1 cm, usually narrowly oblong, rarely narrowly elliptic, apex rounded and emarginate, base usually rounded or truncate, rarely acute, glabrous above, lower surface densely appressed puberulous with brownish hairs forming a pellicle; coriaceous; midrib sunken on the upper surface, secondary veins 7-14 pairs, intersecondaries long, higher order venation obscured. Petiole 0.2-1.1 cm long, channelled, scurfy or glabrous. Flowers solitary. Pedicel 1.5-3 cm long, glabrous. Sepals (rarely only 4 or 5) 6-9 mm long, outer lanceolate, acute, inner elliptic, rounded, closely appressed puberulous outside, denser on the inner whorl, both whorls glabrous inside. Corolla glabrous, 0.75-1.1 cm long, tube 5.5-9 mm long; lobes (4-)6, divided to about half way or more into a narrowly boat-shaped median segment and two oblong truncate lateral segments. Stamens (4-)6, glabrous, inserted half to three quarters up the corolla tube; filaments ca. 1 mm long, straight or incurved, anthers 2-3 mm long, narrowly lanceolate. Staminodes 0-3, 0.5-1 mm long, glabrous, linear-lanceolate, inserted at the level of the stamens or between the corolla lobes. Ovary ovoid, 6-locular, densely puberulous; style 0.6-1 cm long after anthesis, pubescent below. Fruit (immature) ca. 1.2 cm long, broadly ellipsoid, apex rounded, base tapered, smooth, glabrous.
