    Species Description - Glabrous shrub or tree, 3-8(-25) m tall; trunk to 9 cm diam.; bark light brown, flaky. Branchlets terete, slender, finely striate. Leaves ovate- to elliptic-oblong, sometimes ovate or rather narrowly so, apex gradually attenuate, or subacuminate, sometimes obtuse, tip obtuse except a minute apiculus formed by the protracted midrib, base subinequilateral, elongately and more or less narrowly cuneate and decurrent to the petiole, firmly chartaceous to subcoriaceous, greenish-olivaceous and shiny mainly above when dry, minutely tuberculate all over both surfaces, edge hardly revolute, (4.5-)7-9(-12) x (2.5-)3-4.5(-6) cm, midrib plane above, a lit le prominent beneath, lateral nerves 4-5 pairs, the lower 1 or 2 pairs high curved-ascending from and from above the base of the lamina, the upper pairs shorter and more straight, obscurely looping before the edge, slightly raised mainly beneath, reticulation of veins and veinlets rather dense, finely though distinctly raised on both surfaces; petiole rugulose, 5-8 x 1 mm. Racemes axillary, spikelike, usually solitary, rarely geminate, with 2 or 3 sessile flowers together in a group, several of these groups spaced along the distinct slender rhachis (5-15 mm long), practically glabrous or finely puberulous all over except the corolla. Bracts and bracteoles of the epicalyx free to almost the base, 1 mm. Flower-axis broadly cup-shaped, 1 mm. Corolla both in the brachystylous and dolichostylous flowers urceolate-cylindric, yellow or greenish-yellow, 4-4.5(-5) mm long including the lobes, the latter deltoid, obtuse, reflexed, ca. 1 mm long. Disk and top of ovary glabrous. Drupe solitary on top of infructescence, ellipsoid or ellipsoid-obovoid, dark crimson or purple, 12-15 x 9-10 mm.

    Venezuela/Brazilian border (Sierra Parima), Surinam, Brazil (Mato Grosso); in gallery forest, dry forest, or cerrado with trees, scattered to 900 m alt.
