Description
Species Description - Slender glabrous shrub, 2.5-4 m tall. Branchlets compressed, distinctly longitudinally ridged, often flexuous, divaricate, early corticate. Leaves elliptic, oblong-or ovate-elliptic, apex rounded, very tip shortly subglandular-apiculate, base broadly attenuate to rounded, occasionally subcordate, coriaceous, stiff, dark brown or olivaceous when dry, lustrous mainly above, sparsely or not tuberculate on both surfaces, edge markedly revolute, (1.5-)2-3.5(-4.2) x (0.5-)1.5-2.5(-3) cm, midrib plane or slightly immersed above, prominent beneath, lateral nerves (4-)5-6 pairs rather straight from the midrib, irregularly divergent, obscurely looping before the margin, usually faintly raised on both surfaces in fully mature leaves (slightly impressed in very young ones!), sometimes evanescent, as is the coarse reticulation of veins; petiole transversely rugulose, (1-)2-3 mm long. Peduncles solitary from foliate axils, slender, glabrous, nodding, (6-)8-12 mm long, bearing on top 2(rarely 3) sessile flowers. Epicalyx cup-shaped, shortly sinuately 3-lobed, 1.5 mm long. Flower-axis 1.5 mm high. Corolla only known in the brachystylous form (Ekman 4050), subovate-cylindrical, 4.5 mm long, 5-lobed in the upper 1/3, the lobes erect. Disk and top of ovary glabrous. Drupe ellipsoid, glabrous, 8-10 x 6-7 mm.
