Description
Variety Description - Treelet 2.0-4.0 m tall, with pyramidal crown. Branchlets stellate-pubescent, the stellae often many-rayed, appressed, aggregated so as to present a spotted appearance, or so crowded as to cover the tips of the branchlets with a continuous rusty tomentum. Leaves hirtellous along the midrib above, sparsely pubescent beneath, but more densely so along the nerves and very sparsely on the intercostal parts beneath, reticulation prominent; stipules usually long and persistent, often falcate, 6.0-25.0 mm long. There are two forms as to the flower size: the one with sepals 2.0-3.3 cm long and 0.8-1.3 cm broad, the other with sepals ca 1.8 cm long and 0.8 cm broad, generally also with shorter pedicels. Anthers 5.0-6.0 mm long. Fruits up to 6.0 cm diam, reddish.

Distribution
Limited to the Northern part of Venezuela; usually in montane forest, 500-1800 m, occasionally in "Llanos" at 150 m altitude.
