    Species Description - Shrub or generally a tree up to 30.0 m high; trunk sometimes buttressed. Branchlets puberulous at tips, glabrescent below. Leaves (narrowly) oblong, obovate- or elliptic-oblong, apex caudate-acuminate for 2.0-3.0 cm, base slightly unequal, rounded to subcordate, thinly subcoriaceous, lustrous and glabrous above, glabrous or minutely pubescent especially along the midrib beneath, remotely repand-serrate to subentire, 8.0-25.0 cm long, 6.0-9.0 cm broad, lateral nerves 7-8 pairs a little prominent above, more distinctly so beneath, veins more or less transverse, finely raised on both faces as is the dense reticulation of the veinlets; petiole 5.0-7.0 mm long; stipules foliaceous, narrowly ovate-oblong, somewhat falcate, puberulous, up to 17.0 mm long and 3.0 mm broad, subpersistent. Inflorescence all over puberulous, 3.0-6.0(-8.0) cm long, the spikes up to 2.5 cm long in anthesis, much enlarged in fruit. Flowers densely crowded along the secondary rhachises; bracts and bracteoles minute, caducous. Flowers white. Calyx 4 (or 5)-angled by mutual pressing of the flowers along rhachis, not gibbous as in T. macrophyllum, glabrous outside, pubescent inside, up to 2.0 mm long, the lobes only ca 0.5 mm long. Stamens 4, ca 0.5 mm long. Ovary apparently glabrous. Fruit globose to obovoid, glabrous, up to 2.5 cm long and 1.8 cm broad; seeds numerous, ovoid, ca 2.0 mm long.

    Distribution and Ecology - Costa Rica (Puntarenas), Panama and Colombia (Choco); in forest, also swamp forest, at sea level or low alt.
