    Description - Shrub, treelet or tree, 2.0-6.0, rarely up to 40.0 m tall. Branchlets laxly to densely grayish- or yellowish-pubescent at tips, older parts grayish-brownish-corticate and covered with elongate lenticels. Leaves oblong to (sub)ovate-oblong or elliptic, apex shortly obtusely acuminate, base subtruncate, rounded or subcordate, often somewhat unequal, provided with 1 or 2 thickish, almost cup-shaped glands at the very base of the lamina or on top of the petiole, chartaceous to subcoriaceous, initially pubescent on both faces, gradually glabrescent, finally glabrous and a little shining above, rather persistently hairy on midrib and nerves beneath, glandular-sinuate-dentate-subserrate (0.5-1.0 mm) to subentire, (5.0-)7.0-12.0 cm long, (2.5-)3.0-6.0 cm broad, lateral nerves 6-9 (rarely -12) pairs, distantly subparallel and more or less looping before the margin, prominent beneath, reticulation of veins and veinlets rather dense, slightly though distinctly raised on both faces; petiole pubescent, 0.8-1.5 cm long; stipules subulate-lanceolate, pubescent, 1.0 mm long, caducous. Panicles terminal, pyramidate, many-flowered, all over yellowish- or grayish-tomentu-lose, 6.0-13.0 cm long, the lower branches composite and up to 8.0 cm long; pedicels articulate at base, 3.0-6.0 mm long; bracts elliptic-lanceolate, ca 1.0 mm long. Flowers yellow, fragrant. Sepals 3, ovate, obtuse, velutinous externally, glabrous internally, ciliate, (3.0-)4.0-5.0 mm long, 2.5-3.0 mm broad. Petals 3, similar to the sepals, 3.0-4.0 mm broad. Receptacle more or less densely hairy, rarely laxly so, or almost glabrous in the southern part of the area of distribution. Ovary glabrous; style 2.0-3.0 mm long. Fruit berry-like, globose, blackish-reddish, 5.0-8.0 mm diam; seeds 6-10, oblongoid, blackish, glossy, 2.5 mm long; testa finely impressed-punctate.

    In Amazonian Colombia, Peru, Brazil, and Bolivia, in Paraguay and Argentina (Formosa, Chaco, Corrientes, Santa Fé); in lowland forest, often along stream.
