Description
Species Description - Young branches minutely appressed puberulous at first soon glabrous, becoming rough, pale brown or greyish-white, sometimes with a few large lenticels. Leaves pinnate with a terminal bud showing intermittent growth, to 27 cm long; petiole semiterete, rhachis terete, glabrous, becoming woody; petiolule 1-2 mm long. Leaflets to 6 pairs, broadly oblanceolate, obovate, or cuneiform, apex rounded, base narrowly attenuate, coriaceous, 5-6.5 cm long, 2.8-3 cm broad, glabrous, not glandular-punctate or -striate; venation eucamptodromous, midrib flat; secondaries 9-11 on either side of midrib, shallowly ascending, straight or arcuate at tip, parallel; intersecondaries long and prominent; tertiary reticulum obscure. Inflorescence axillary, small, ca. 5-flowered; flowers 4-merous. Sepals united at base, triangular, very short pilose. Petals sericeo-pilose. Anthers 8. Capsule globose, densely tuberculate-ribbed, sparsely to densely appressed puberulous, ca. 1.5 cm diam., 3-4-valved, valves with 1-2 superposed seeds. Embryo not seen. Confined to forested limestone hills in Santo Domingo and Haiti between 700 and 1800 m altitude.
