Updated February 2023 (general update). CSH founded in 2005, opened in April 2010, the herabrium covered 1,560 square metres at the basement in Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden, and can ultimately hold about 1,000,000 dried specimens. Up to 2022, CSH totally holds 190,000 specimens, 75% of them had been digitized. CSH mainly collects vascular plants in East Asia, and now collected plentiful of specimens from East China Sea islands, Shanghai and East China region (including Anhui, Fujian, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shandong and Zhejiang), and also collected invasive plants in China. For some groups, like Polypodiaceae, Lepisorus, Dennstaedtiaceae, Microlepia and Tectariaceae in ferns, Aristolochiaceae, Begoniaceae, Celastraceae, Fagaceae, Machilus (Lauraceae), Salvia (Lamiaceae), CSH extended the range to East Asia and East Africa.
